About Clyde

Clyde Leland Since 1990, Clyde Leland has taught public speaking and writing for law firms and legal departments, as well as for business executives, teachers, and other professionals. For more than ten years, he was the in-house Editor and Writing Instructor at Crosby, Heafey, Roach & May, a law firm with six offices in California, where he also directed the firm’s professional development program.

In addition to trainings, Clyde provides editorial services to lawyers and other professionals, helping to polish briefs, memos, letters, speeches, and articles for publication, and coaching individuals in public-speaking skills. He is a frequent speaker at law schools and for local, state, and national bar conferences, as well as for business organizations and individual companies.

After practicing in a community-based law collective in Dorchester, Massachusetts, following law school, Clyde left the practice of law to become a legal affairs journalist, and worked in both broadcasting and print, including eight years as an editor at California Lawyer magazine in San Francisco. An adjunct professor in Legal Ethics at the University of San Francisco Law School, Clyde also was an instructor in Legal Research and Writing at Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, and has taught Legal Concepts and Analysis at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California.

A native San Franciscan, Clyde is a member of the Massachusetts and California bars, and was on the national governing board of the Professional Development Consortium; he serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of California Lawyer magazine, and is a founding member of the longest-running men’s group in the San Francisco Bay Area.
